6 ways to celebrate earth day

Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. Here are ways to help celebrate -

Tip One:

Be car-free.

Walk or bike — not only is it good for the body, it's good for the environment too!

Tip two:

Make a bird feeder or house.

Use a milk carton, a large water or soda bottle, or a pine cone.

Tip three:

Choose reusable cups

You immediately cut down trash by refusing disposable paper coffee cups for your takeaway beverage.

Tip four:

Support a local farmer's market

Besides supporting area businesses, you’ll also be helping the Earth by buying your fruits and veggies local.

Tip five:

Unsubscribe to catalogs

The fact is that over 100 million trees are cut down each year to produce junk mail including catalogs. Plus they usually just end up in the trash anyway.

Tip five:

Grow something

Plant a seed, sprout, flower, or tree in a pot, garden, or backyard. Trees not only cool things down but they also clean the air and give off more oxygen, among a ton of other benefits.

Tip six:

Get reusable bags

Plastic bags take up lots of space in landfills and cause major problems for marine wildlife.  Instead, buy some super cute reusable bags to use when you go to the grocery store.
